Once upon a time, a girl discovered a beautiful land far far away. She called this grey land home, and there, she found everything she had thought she wanted.

The air in this land smelt distinctive, enshrouded as it always was by rain and mist and cloud. Yet the girl loved her new home all the same, from the cobblestone paths on the ground to the green hills that loomed over the horizon. She loved the city's busy streets that contrasted with its solemn history.

She fell in with a group of friends who welcomed her with open arms. They invited her into their easy camaraderie, stranger that she was. Together, they ran into ancient castles at night, toured the many bars the town had to offer, climbed massive cranes to watch the sleeping town below. She was in love.

She fell in love with a man who had the bluest eyes she'd seen. Though she initially guarded her walls around him, he gave her his heart so freely. He trusted her completely, and in turn she trusted him. Together, they spent a night breathlessly dancing a traditional dance, burrowed themselves into his room as protection from the cold winds outside, scaled the mountains to watch the quiet world below.

Her life was a whirlwind of adventure and song, one moment running into the frozen seas at dawn’s first light, the next sinking into couches basking in the easy rays of friendship. She played music around a fire and breathed fire to the music around. The skies were grey and cold and unyielding, but the glow she found in the people around her sustained her.

Then the dream ended, as all dreams must.

There are times in which she still tastes the cold North Sea in the air and feels the highland’s quiet loneliness amidst a crowd. Sometimes she’ll turn and expect to see a face from her memories, hear the familiar unfamiliar accent. Then she remembers that she has woken up and that her life before was just a dream. Her fairytale is no longer her reality.

Yet reality was kind to her. She kept a memento of her dream. The man with the blue eyes has followed her home.
